About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Substation Design Engineer with 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience in power delivery projects. This position is ideal for someone looking to take the next step in their career, with clear goals to obtain their EIT or PE license. You will play a key role in the design, development, and delivery of high‑voltage substation projects up to 500 kV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the design of electrical substations, including physical layout, equipment selection, grounding, lightning protection, and conduit/cable systems.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables such as general arrangement drawings, one‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams, SCADA/communications drawings, bill of materials, and wiring diagrams.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and protection & control engineers to ensure cohesive, high‑quality project execution.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including bus sizing, grounding analysis, cable ampacity, and equipment ratings.
  • Support project managers with scope development, cost estimates, schedule input, and technical clarifications.
  • Engage in client meetings, site visits, and technical discussions as needed.
  • Pursue and maintain progress toward EIT or PE licensure, with mentorship and training support provided by the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in substation design for utilities, EPC firms, or engineering consultancies.
  • Working knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, ASCE).
  • Proficiency with engineering and CAD tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of substation equipment, physical design principles, and construction practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT certification or active pursuit of EIT/PE licensure.
  • Experience with design software such as CYME, ETAP, or SKM (for grounding or load flow analysis).
  • Familiarity with P&C drawings or substation protection schemes.
  • Experience working directly with utility clients is a plus.
