This role involves contributing to both routine and advanced engineering tasks related to the design and development of high‑voltage substations, with systems ranging up to approximately 765 kV. The position requires strong technical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform engineering evaluations, cost estimating, and design support for new high‑voltage substation installations and the refurbishment of existing switchyard facilities (up to 765 kV).
- Develop and revise physical layouts, equipment specifications, and structural arrangements for major substation components.
- Produce engineering drawings, including site plans, plan/elevation views, grounding layouts, conduit routing, lighting plans, control building arrangements, AC/DC systems, and bills of material.
- Conduct technical calculations such as grounding grid studies, voltage drop, conductor ampacity, lightning protection analysis, bus sizing, transformer and bus loading, and auxiliary AC/DC system sizing.
- Track progress against established schedules and budget expectations for assigned tasks.
- Coordinate design requirements with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive and accurate project execution.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members and designers.
- Maintain responsibility for ensuring all deliverables meet internal quality standards and client requirements.
Preferred Background & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with roughly four or more years of experience in high‑voltage substation design or similar utility engineering work.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is desirable, or willingness to pursue licensure within approximately six months.
- Ability to broaden technical knowledge through structured assignments involving data collection, analysis, and problem‑solving.
- Strong computer proficiency with solid analytical reasoning skills.
- Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation is beneficial.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer‑service mindset and comfort working in a collaborative, team‑focused environment.
