Survey Manager

Our client, a respected local civil engineering and land surveying firm in Santa Fe, is seeking a Survey Manager to lead their growing surveying team. This senior-level role focuses on managing staff, overseeing technical quality, and delivering high‑accuracy boundary, land, and construction survey projects across northern New Mexico. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the survey department, including both office staff and field crews
  • Oversee all survey deliverables, including boundary surveys, plats, ALTA/NSPS surveys, topographic surveys, legal descriptions, and construction staking packages
  • Conduct and review complex boundary analysis, land research, and property documentation
  • Manage quality control (QA/QC) for survey calculations, field data, maps, and final deliverables
  • Serve as a technical resource for survey methods, land law, data collection, and professional standards
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies to support smooth project execution
  • Plan project scopes, schedules, staffing, and budgets
  • Support proposal preparation and client communication as part of business development efforts
  • Provide ongoing training, guidance, and mentorship for junior surveyors and technicians

Required Qualifications

  • Active New Mexico Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license
  • 7+ years of land surveying experience, including boundary analysis and project leadership
  • Strong understanding of New Mexico boundary law, property records, and survey standards
  • Proficiency with survey software and technology such as Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, GNSS/GPS, robotic total stations, and digital data collection workflows
  • Experience producing and reviewing plats, legal descriptions, and survey reports
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering and surveying teams

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with New Mexico land grants, historical boundary research, and state-specific land documentation
  • Familiarity with federal land issues, including BLM cadastral surveys and federal boundary requirements
  • Experience with Carlson Survey is highly preferred
  • Prior experience mentoring junior staff or managing field crews
  • Ability to assist with project management tasks, including budgeting, scoping, and scheduling
