Team Lead - Water/Wastewater
Seeking a highly experienced Project Manager and Team Leader to drive growth and lead project delivery within the municipal water and wastewater sector in Oregon. This leadership role combines business development, client relationship management, and technical oversight, with a focus on expanding the firm's presence in the region.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in municipal water and wastewater systems, including planning, design, and regulatory coordination. This position is based in the Portland area and reports to the regional practice leadership, working closely with market and business unit leaders across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Client Engagement
- Cultivate and expand relationships with municipal clients across Oregon, identifying new opportunities and leading strategic pursuits.
- Oversee the full client experience, from initial engagement through project delivery and follow-up.
- Lead cross-functional teams in developing proposals, negotiating contracts, and forecasting revenue.
- Monitor project performance and client satisfaction, intervening as needed to ensure successful outcomes.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to project managers, ensuring alignment with client expectations and company standards.
Technical Leadership & Project Oversight
- Guide the planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure, including:
- Potable, raw, and recycled water systems
- Groundwater supply and well design
- Pump stations, pipelines, and reservoirs
- Sewer collection systems (gravity and pressure)
- Water quality and treatment systems, including reuse applications
- Hydraulic modeling and system analysis
- SCADA and operational controls
- Ensure technical excellence and compliance with quality standards across all deliverables.
- Review engineering documents for accuracy, regulatory compliance, and constructability.
- Support permitting efforts and coordination with local, state, and federal agencies.
Team Management & Operational Excellence
- Lead and support a team of engineers and project managers, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage staffing, performance reviews, training, and professional development.
- Align group performance with organizational goals, including utilization, backlog, profitability, and client satisfaction.
- Ensure adherence to internal systems for budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (or related discipline)
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Oregon
- At least 15 years of experience in water/wastewater infrastructure projects
- Minimum 5 years in a client-facing business development or leadership role
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 20+ years of industry experience
- Familiarity with Oregon-specific water and wastewater regulations and permitting processes
- Experience working with local utilities, municipalities, and regulatory agencies
- Proficiency in engineering software such as Civil3D, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, and related tools
