In this Transportation Engineer 5 role, you will work closely with seasoned industry professionals on a portfolio of diverse, high‑visibility, and widely sought‑after projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the planning and design of major transportation infrastructure, including highways, interchanges, and complex roadway corridors in both urban and rural areas.
- Oversee preparation and review of design documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards before final approval.
- Collaborate directly with clients to understand project goals and ensure engineering solutions support their long‑term objectives..
- Prepare, review, and validate engineering calculations for roadway geometry, drainage systems, and related transportation design components.
- Develop and evaluate project specifications, special provisions, and cost estimates to ensure accuracy and alignment with client requirements.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to proposal preparation and RFP responses.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences and professional events to strengthen visibility and client relationships.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, supporting performance, growth, and project success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois
- 7+ years of professional engineering experience
- Experience working on Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) projects
- Strong knowledge of IDOT design manuals, standards, specifications, and guidelines
- Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project tasks or serving as a design lead
