The Transportation Lead is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. This individual will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage client relationships, and ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a strategic mindset to drive innovation and excellence in transportation engineering.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage transportation projects from concept through construction, including roadway, highway, transit, and multimodal infrastructure.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee project teams, including engineers, designers, and subconsultants, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to project schedules.
  • Develop and review technical reports, design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation standards and environmental regulations.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, client presentations, and strategic planning.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to talent development within the transportation group.
  • Implement quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures and risk management strategies.
  • Monitor project budgets, resource allocation, and performance metrics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation engineering, including leadership roles.
  • Proven track record managing large-scale infrastructure projects (Design-Build, PS&E, PA/ED, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of transportation design standards (AASHTO, MUTCD, Caltrans, etc.).
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as MicroStation, InRoads, Civil 3D, and project management tools.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client relationship skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public agency clients (e.g., DOTs, MPOs, municipalities).
  • Familiarity with NEPA/CEQA processes and environmental documentation.
  • Business development experience and existing client relationships.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management training.
