The Opportunity
An established global engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Vice President, Data Center Electrical Engineering Lead to help grow and lead its mission-critical/data center practice. This is a high-visibility leadership role for an accomplished electrical engineer with deep experience in data center infrastructure and a track record of guiding complex projects from early strategy and basis of design through execution and delivery.
This individual will act as a senior technical and market-facing advisor for clients, with a focus on electrical systems, power distribution, resiliency, redundancy strategies, and high-performance critical infrastructure. The role will play a key part in shaping the firm's data center engineering strategy, supporting business development, providing technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, and expanding its presence in the rapidly evolving mission-critical market.
Your Impact
In this role, you will drive the growth of the data center electrical engineering function and help expand market reach across hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise clients. You will collaborate with internal technical leaders, clients, and project teams to develop innovative solutions for complex and large-scale data center environments.
You will provide senior electrical engineering leadership across pursuits and active projects, support strategic initiatives, mentor engineering staff, and contribute to advancing design approaches in areas such as utility interconnection, medium- and low-voltage distribution, backup generation, and emerging high-density compute infrastructure.
Position Summary
The Vice President, Data Center Electrical Engineering Lead will oversee electrical engineering strategy, project execution, and technical leadership for mission-critical projects. The role focuses on power infrastructure, including utility coordination, substations, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, grounding, and controls integration, while supporting high-performing technical teams and delivering best-in-class engineering solutions.
This position will be involved in business planning, client engagement, technical oversight, staff development, and quality assurance across the data center portfolio.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead the data center electrical engineering strategy with a focus on technical excellence, growth, and client delivery
- Serve as a senior subject matter expert for electrical systems on mission-critical projects and pursuits
- Provide leadership for electrical infrastructure design including medium voltage distribution, substations, switchgear, UPS, generators, and controls coordination
- Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams, establishing technical standards and mentoring future leaders
- Support development and refinement of electrical basis-of-design standards for data centers and critical facilities
- Advise on large-scale hyperscale, colocation, and campus-style developments
- Partner with leadership to expand client relationships and grow the data center portfolio
- Support business development efforts including proposals, client strategy, and interviews
- Provide technical review and quality assurance of engineering deliverables
- Guide teams through full project lifecycle from concept through construction and commissioning
- Collaborate across disciplines including mechanical, structural, civil, and architecture teams
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies related to high-density power demands, grid integration, and energy efficiency
- Support staffing, resource planning, project financials, and risk management
- Represent the firm in industry forums, conferences, and client engagements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Active Professional Engineer license
- 12+ years of progressive experience with strong focus on mission-critical or data center facilities
- Proven experience leading electrical design for data centers or other complex infrastructure projects
- Strong knowledge of power distribution, redundancy (N, N+1, 2N), short circuit and coordination studies, grounding, and protection systems
- Experience with utility coordination, substations, backup generation, and critical power systems
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and complex project delivery
- Strong client-facing experience with owners, developers, and contractors
- Experience supporting business development and market growth initiatives
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SKM/ETAP, and standard engineering tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale data center campuses and multi-megawatt developments
- Familiarity with high-density compute environments and evolving power demands driven by AI workloads
- Experience with power system studies, arc flash analysis, and electrical modeling tools
- Background working with owners, contractors, or equipment manufacturers
- Established network within the mission-critical or data center industry
- Experience building and mentoring engineering teams
