66% of civil professionals in Australia earn between AUD 100,000 and AUD 179,000. At senior levels, 17% earn more than AUD 200,000, reflecting high demand for experienced engineers and project managers.

Salaries for environmental professionals are widely distributed, but 19% earn more than AUD 200,000, indicating strong competition for senior specialists in ESG compliance, climate resilience, and environmental consulting.

Salary increases were reported by 71% of surveyed civil professionals and 69% of environmental professionals in the past year. The majority received increases worth 1-5% of their base salary, but some professionals reported double-digit raises, which suggests that targeted pay strategies are used to retain mid to senior level talent. 

Only 31% of surveyed civil professionals in Australia received a bonus within the last year, and most of these were small, worth 1-5% of their base salary. In the environmental sector, 42% received a bonus, with some reporting awards worth between 6-15% of their salary.

LVI Associates’ survey found that more than half of civil professionals in Australia receive no additional benefits, but superannuation contributions were the most common.

In the environmental sector, 36% reported no benefits, while the most common provisions were superannuation, extra holiday days, and travel allowances. 

Most civil professionals, 70%, receive between 14 and 20 days of annual leave, and 80% reported access to paid parental leave.

Among environmental professionals, 51% receive 14 to 20 days, 28% receive 21 to 27 days, and 67% have access to paid parental leave.

Flexible working is widely offered to civil professionals in Australia, with 75% reporting flexible hours and 81% having the option to work remotely, usually two days per week.  

Among environmental professionals, 91% report both flexible hours and remote working options, with some working fully remotely.

Civil professionals in Australia are most motivated by higher salaries, career progression, and work-life balance. In the survey, 79% said they would move for a higher base salary.  

Environmental professionals reported similar motivations, with 78% citing higher salaries, 65% valuing good work-life balance, and 62% considering flexible working policies an important factor.
