Assistant Superintendent

We're working with a construction contractor to hire an Assistant Superintendent to support the on‑site delivery of building and interior construction projects across New Jersey and New York City. This role focuses on day‑to‑day field supervision, planning and coordination to ensure work is executed safely, on schedule and in line with project documents and cost parameters.

The role
Reporting to the Project Manager and Superintendent, you will help manage site operations, coordinate trades and maintain control of quality, schedule and labour.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and understanding all contract documents, drawings and specifications
  • Developing and implementing site‑specific plans, procedures and quality control requirements
  • Supporting construction planning, including manpower, equipment, site logistics and temporary works
  • Preparing and maintaining detailed area and trade schedules in coordination with the Project Manager
  • Monitoring work to ensure it aligns with the project estimate and programme
  • Coordinating inspections and addressing corrective actions where required
  • Managing day‑to‑day labour relations on site
  • Assisting with reviews of work-in-place, payrolls, material invoices and other disbursements
  • Supporting the preparation and review of monthly owner requisitions
  • Preparing reports and attending job meetings as required
  • Actively enforcing company safety policies and procedures
  • Taking on additional duties based on project and regional needs

About you

  • Four‑year degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four years' building construction experience (six years for Superintendent level)
  • Interior construction experience required
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, costs, surveying, estimating and construction methods
  • Strong organisational, leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet project demands
  • Ability to work on projects in New Jersey and New York City as required
