Superintendents will be responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and supervising production and workforce activities within their assigned project area.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees project execution and coordinates across teams to ensure alignment with plans and specifications.
- Plans methods, materials, equipment, and schedules for assigned work; reviews daily tasks and updates weekly/monthly plans based on field feedback.
- Reviews project specifications to support setup and collaborates with crews and utilities to identify site hazards.
- Presents the production work plan during initial project meetings to ensure alignment among all crews and leadership.
- Coordinates with internal and external teams to ensure the availability of equipment and materials needed to meet budget and schedule targets.
- Forecasts work schedules to identify potential issues and provides technical or scheduling recommendations to mitigate delays.
- Offers technical input to address project risks and supports planning efforts related to construction, safety, materials, and scheduling.
- Records daily activities and meetings using approved documentation methods.
- Coordinates with internal and external departments to ensure all required inspections are completed on time.
- Promotes and enforces strict adherence to safety protocols and process controls related to equipment operation, site safety, and documentation.
- Supervises subcontractor work and adjusts schedules or methods as needed to maintain progress.
- Manages project close-out activities in accordance with project standards and Owner checklist requirements.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced and challenging construction environment.
- Responsibilities include maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, ensuring efficient equipment operation, and following safety protocols.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests is required on-site.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent walking and standing, both in-office and on-site.
- Occasional climbing on/off equipment and bending for inspections.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 15 years of heavy civil construction experience (rail), including at least 3 years in a management role.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- Proven leadership ability with a focus on mentoring and developing internal talent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced knowledge of construction equipment operation and maintenance.
- Advanced understanding of construction site safety protocols and demonstrated ability to enforce safety programs.
- Ability to read and interpret standards, plans, and specifications.
- Strong analytical skills to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification.
