POSITION OVERVIEW for Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

The Commercial Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and overall performance of the Commercial Projects Team. This role focuses on enhancing operational effectiveness, boosting team output, and ensuring profitability throughout all stages of commercial solar project delivery. The manager facilitates cross-departmental collaboration, supports and develops team members, and implements systems to monitor and improve key performance indicators. Working closely with senior leadership and other departments, this role ensures scaleable operations, accurate forecasting, and a culture of continuous improvement aligned with organizational objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES of Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

Team Leadership & Performance Management - Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

  • Recruit, coach, and manage the Commercial Project Management team
  • Drive team success through regular feedback and performance evaluations
  • Assist Project Managers in managing risks, aligning schedules, and resolving project issues
  • Define and monitor KPIs for individual and team performance
  • Analyze project time-lines to improve efficiency in both planning and execution phases

Forecasting & Cross-Department Collaboration - Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

  • Coordinate with Sales, Estimating, and Field Operations to align project schedules, workforce availability, and installation planning
  • Participate in regular planning meetings to ensure alignment between projected workload and operational capacity
  • Provide insights to guide staffing, subcontractor engagement, and strategic project planning
  • Act as a key point of contact between Project Operations and departments such as Procurement, Warehouse, and Finance

Process Improvement & Standardization - Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

  • Lead efforts to assess and refine operational procedures
  • Prioritize enhancements in safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and productivity
  • Create and maintain standardized processes to ensure consistent project execution
  • Promote a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and ongoing improvement

Contract Oversight & Financial Management - Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

  • Review project documentation and contracts to ensure clarity, risk awareness, and alignment with execution strategies
  • Support billing processes and ensure timely, accurate invoicing
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to review and approve change orders, ensuring proper scope, pricing, and documentation
  • Monitor financial performance at the project level and identify opportunities to enhance margins and efficiency

Quality Control & Best Practices - Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

  • Uphold high standards by regularly reviewing fieldwork and project documentation
  • Implement feedback mechanisms and training to reinforce best practices
  • Lead or contribute to post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned and apply improvements to future work

QUALIFICATIONS - Commercial Operations Manager (Project Execution)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on risk management
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Highly organized with strong time management abilities
  • Detail-oriented and operationally focused
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and manage team members
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Workspace, and project management software
  • Experience with CRM platforms such as Sales-force
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a strong work ethic

  • Prior experience in solar energy or construction is preferred
