Director of Estimating & Construction Sales - HVAC / Mechanical
Overview
A leading mechanical contractor in the South Shore is seeking a Director of Sales & Estimating to lead strategic growth, oversee preconstruction operations, and drive revenue across commercial and institutional markets. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing both the sales pipeline and estimating function, while partnering closely with operations to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating and business development teams
- Establish growth strategies aligned with company revenue and market expansion goals
- Collaborate with executive leadership on forecasting, target markets, and client development
Sales & Business Development
- Drive new business opportunities across HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Build and maintain relationships with GCs, developers, owners, and key industry stakeholders
- Identify and pursue negotiated work, design-build opportunities, and strategic partnerships
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Oversee all estimating functions (conceptual through hard bid)
- Review takeoffs, pricing, and proposals to ensure accuracy and competitiveness
- Implement best practices, tools, and processes to improve bid success rates
Market Positioning
- Analyze local market trends, competitors, and project opportunities
- Support branding and positioning efforts within the New England construction market
- Represent the company at industry events and networking functions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with project management and operations teams to ensure seamless project handoff
- Support contract negotiations and risk management during project acquisition
- Provide feedback loops post-project to refine estimating strategies
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC construction, with a strong background in estimating and/or preconstruction
- Proven leadership experience managing estimating and/or sales teams
- Strong network within the Massachusetts / New England construction market
- Experience with design-build, plan & spec, and negotiated work
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution
