Electrical Engineer - Water/Wastewater
The Project Electrical Engineer plays a key role in delivering municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects, working closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams. Projects typically include water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, booster stations, and related utility infrastructure.
This role is client‑facing and involves technical leadership, design execution, and project delivery within established budgets and schedules.
This position is available in any NC offices to include Charlotte, Raleigh or Wilmington.
What You'll Do
- Lead electrical design efforts from concept through construction and project close‑out
- Perform electrical engineering design, design reviews, and construction support for water and wastewater facilities and pump stations
- Provide technical leadership to the electrical team, including task delegation, mentoring, and design guidance for junior engineers
- Coordinate with project managers to manage scope, schedule, and budget
- Conduct QA/QC reviews and collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines
- Work directly with clients, including preliminary evaluations, report preparation, technical specifications, drawing packages, and permit submittals
- Manage RFIs, submittals, contract modifications, and design changes
- Analyze systems and processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness
- Participate in site visits, agency meetings, and municipal meetings as required
- Balance multiple assignments across concurrent projects
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure
- 6-10 years of relevant professional experience
- Proven experience designing medium‑ and low‑voltage electrical distribution systems, including MCCs, generators, switchgear, and emergency power systems
- Ability to develop single‑line diagrams, motor elementary diagrams, and instrument loop wiring diagrams
- Experience with electrical area classification plans and equipment selection for classified environments
- Proficiency with generator sizing tools such as Caterpillar SpecSizer or Cummins PowerSuite
- Experience reviewing and redlining electrical drawings prepared by junior staff
- Strong working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 780
- Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or Revit
- Familiarity with arc flash analysis software such as ETAP or SKM
- Field investigation and start‑up experience preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
