Head of Business Development - Renewable Energy (Utility-Scale Projects)

Are you passionate about driving the clean energy transition in Asia? A leading pan-Asian renewable energy platform is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Business Development to lead the charge in expanding its utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage project pipeline.

About the Role

As a senior leader in the renewable energy space, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the business development strategy. This includes identifying and securing new project opportunities, managing key government and industry relationships, and overseeing the full development lifecycle-from early-stage origination through to commercial operation.

You will play a pivotal role in negotiating commercial agreements, managing partnerships, and ensuring regulatory alignment to support the company's mission of delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a robust business development strategy to grow the project pipeline via self-development, tenders, acquisitions, and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with central and local government bodies to support renewable energy initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advocate for policy changes that support project success.
  • Lead commercial negotiations for term sheets, CPPAs, joint development agreements, and other key contracts.
  • Oversee land acquisition efforts in collaboration with local brokers, landowners, and authorities.
  • Manage the tender bidding process, including internal approvals, bid documentation, and contract negotiations.
  • Collaborate with investment and project teams to assess feasibility and prepare investment proposals.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on pipeline status, market trends, and strategic initiatives.
  • Lead and mentor the business development team to ensure high performance and alignment with company goals.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Engineering, Business, Real Estate, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the renewable energy sector, with a strong track record in utility-scale project development.
  • Proven success in government tenders, land aggregation, and taking projects from greenfield to COD.
  • Strong network within the renewable energy ecosystem, including government agencies and private sector players.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluent in English and Japanese
