Locations: Springfield, OR | Olympia, WA | Sutton, AK
Salary: $95,000 - $125,000 Base Salary + Bonus + Comprehensive Benefits Package
About the Opportunity
A well-established heavy civil contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to join its growing team supporting infrastructure projects throughout Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. This position offers the opportunity to work on impactful projects including highways, bridges, site development, excavation, grading, underground utilities, marine work, and other heavy civil infrastructure initiatives.
The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and owners to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role is ideal for an ambitious construction professional looking to build a long-term career with a contractor that values collaboration, professional development, and internal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and execution of heavy civil construction projects.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
- Track project budgets, quantities, costs, and production rates.
- Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Support scheduling efforts and monitor project progress.
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to ensure compliance.
- Assist in procurement and material tracking activities.
- Prepare daily reports, meeting minutes, and project updates.
- Support quality control and safety initiatives across project sites.
- Participate in project closeout activities and turnover documentation.
Experience Needed
- 2+ years of experience in construction, project engineering, or project coordination.
- Experience supporting heavy civil construction projects preferred.
- Exposure to one or more of the following project types:
- Highway and Roadway Construction
- Bridges and Structures
- Earthwork and Mass Excavation
- Underground Utilities
- Water and Wastewater Infrastructure
- Site Development
- Marine Construction
- Airport Projects
- Experience reviewing construction plans and specifications.
- Familiarity with project controls, scheduling, and cost tracking.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and suppliers is preferred.
- Internship or co-op experience within heavy civil construction will be considered for junior candidates.
Qualifications Needed
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent construction experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Strong understanding of construction means and methods.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Experience using Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction software is a plus.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
- Self-motivated with a desire to grow into Project Management and leadership roles.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
