Lead Project Engineer | REMOTE
Our client is a highly regarded, multidisciplinary engineering and construction services firm with over 50 years of experience delivering projects across the greater Chicago area. Known for their technical expertise, consistent project delivery, and collaborative culture, they are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to step into a Lead Project Engineer role, supporting a range of transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project leadership and cross-functional teams to support project planning and execution
- Manage and coordinate activities of external consultants and project partners
- Participate in client and stakeholder meetings, including community engagement efforts as needed
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and task delegation to junior staff members
- Oversee preparation of design deliverables, including drawings, technical calculations, quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates
- Develop detailed scopes of work and estimate level of effort for project tasks
- Apply relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices to project work
- Coordinate with client representatives and internal teams to maintain alignment and progress
- Support clear communication and efficient workflow throughout all project phases
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Extensive professional experience in engineering or infrastructure projects (typically 10+ years)
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or similar credential preferred
- Experience with industry-standard design software (e.g., CAD-based tools or comparable platforms)
- Familiarity with transportation or infrastructure standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements
- Strong understanding of construction methods and engineering principles
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders
- Proficiency with common business software (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, email platforms)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to clearly convey technical concepts to a variety of audiences
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail
