Location: Remote
Salary: $160,000 - $200,000 (DOE) + bonus & benefits
A leading U.S. renewable energy owner-operator is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Manager or Director of Integration & Commissioning Engineering (title based on experience). This individual will lead commissioning planning, execution, risk analysis, and integration activities for a rapidly expanding portfolio of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar projects.
This is a high-impact role with the opportunity to shape commissioning strategy for some of the largest and most innovative renewable and storage assets in the country. The position involves close collaboration with internal teams and external partners to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable integration of new projects into commercial operation.
What You'll Do
- Lead the commissioning and integration of utility-scale BESS and solar projects from initial planning through final acceptance.
- Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, test procedures, and integration strategies (including sequencing and energization planning).
- Coordinate activities across engineering, construction, operations, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
- Oversee the full commissioning process-including pre-functional checks, startup testing, energization, performance verification, and turnover documentation.
- Conduct detailed BESS integration mapping and sequencing, including PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, protection systems, and grid-interconnection considerations.
- Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain commissioning schedules aligned with construction and operational milestones.
- Provide technical oversight to third-party vendors, commissioning contractors, and equipment suppliers to ensure accuracy, safety, and quality.
- Troubleshoot issues during commissioning, validate system performance, and ensure operational readiness before asset handoff.
- Drive continuous improvement by developing standards, capturing lessons learned, and implementing best practices across the portfolio.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
- 6+ years of experience in commissioning, with demonstrated expertise in battery energy storage systems and grid-integration testing.
- Strong understanding of electrical and control system integration, system sequencing, commissioning protocols, and utility-interconnection requirements.
- Experience with utility-scale solar commissioning is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule focus.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership skills; able to collaborate effectively with EPCs, vendors, utilities, and internal stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the United States for commissioning activities, reviews, and coordination meetings.
