Senior Electrical Engineer

A rapidly expanding, nationally focused renewable energy company based in Illinois is growing its engineering team. The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the design and implementation of utility‑scale solar and battery energy storage system projects. This position leads electrical design efforts, develops engineering plan sets at multiple stages, and works closely with Development, Operations, external engineers, utilities, and EPC partners to deliver high‑quality, code‑compliant projects. The engineering team supports the full project lifecycle-from early development through construction and long‑term operations.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead development of 30% and IFP engineering plan sets for solar and BESS projects, including site layouts, single‑line diagrams, equipment configurations, stringing plans, and technical calculations.
* Review and validate engineering designs to ensure accuracy, regulatory compliance (NEC, IEEE, UL, AHJ), and alignment with utility and project requirements.
* Perform and review PV system calculations, cable sizing, grounding design, and protection coordination.
* Provide engineering support from early development through the operational phase
* Coordinate with EORs, utilities, and EPC partners to deliver timely and accurate IFP and IFC drawing packages.
* Oversee technical submittals and evaluate electrical studies such as load flow, short‑circuit, and coordination analyses
* Lead design of AC‑ and DC‑coupled BESS systems, including inverter configuration, battery architecture, and interconnection strategy.
* Support selection of major electrical equipment including switchgear, reclosers, transformers, relays, and communication systems.
* Collaborate with BESS integrators, EPC partners, and vendors to ensure system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred).
* Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Illinois required.
* 4-7 years of electrical engineering experience, ideally in renewable energy.
* Proven experience leading electrical design for utility‑scale solar or BESS projects from concept to completion.
* Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards including NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and IEC.
* Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, PVsyst, or similar platforms.
* Excellent communication, organization, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
