About the Role

As our Municipal Engineering Project Manager, you'll drive critical infrastructure improvements that directly impact communities throughout Iowa. From water system upgrades to roadway reconstructions, you'll oversee projects from initial planning through final completion while building lasting relationships with municipal clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Management

  • Direct comprehensive municipal infrastructure projects including water/wastewater systems, street improvements, stormwater management, and utility installations
  • Oversee project lifecycles from preliminary design through construction completion
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to deliver exceptional results

Client Relations & Business Development

  • Serve as primary client contact for municipal accounts
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with city officials, public works departments, and community stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for expanding services within existing client relationships

Technical Excellence & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all deliverables meet regulatory requirements and industry standards
  • Review design documents, specifications, and construction plans for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff

Financial & Schedule Management

  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation
  • Prepare progress reports and communicate project status to clients and internal teams
  • Negotiate contract modifications and manage change orders as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Minimum 5 years of municipal engineering experience
  • Proven project management experience with municipal clients
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication skills and client-facing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field
  • Experience with water/wastewater treatment systems
  • Knowledge of Iowa DOT and municipal design standards
  • Previous experience in employee-owned organizations
  • PMP certification or similar project management credentials
