Position Title: Professional Surveyor (PS)
Location: Independence, Columbus, Blue Ash, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Professional Surveyor is responsible for managing and overseeing land surveying projects, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. This role provides technical leadership, supervises survey staff, reviews survey data and deliverables, and applies professional judgment to boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, and right-of-way surveys in support of public and private development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the licensed surveyor in responsible charge for surveying projects
  • Plan, direct, and review survey work including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, control, construction staking, and as-built surveys
  • Review and certify survey plats, legal descriptions, maps, exhibits, and reports
  • Interpret deeds, easements, title commitments, right-of-way plans, and legal descriptions
  • Ensure survey work complies with Ohio Board of Registration requirements, project specifications, and applicable regulations
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, clients, and public agencies
  • Oversee survey budgets, schedules, and staffing needs
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to survey crew chiefs, technicians, and survey interns
  • Participate in project scoping, proposal preparation, and client meetings
  • Support business development efforts and maintain client relationships

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Surveyor (PS) in the State of Ohio
  • Bachelor's degree in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience per licensure requirements)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive land surveying experience
  • Strong knowledge of boundary law, surveying principles, and best practices
  • Experience with GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, and conventional surveying methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, plats, and legal documents
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with transportation, municipal, utility, or infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with ODOT standards, county surveyor requirements, and local agency standards
  • Proficiency with survey processing and CAD software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D)
  • Supervisory or project management experience
  • Strong client communication and leadership skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform occasional field work, including walking uneven terrain
  • Ability to lift and carry survey equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with periodic field and client site visits
  • Collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet project schedules
