Job Title: Project Scientist - Environmental & Ecological Services

Location: Massachusetts

Salary: $80,000-$100,000

Position Overview:

This position supports a broad range of environmental and ecological initiatives across the New England region. The Project Scientist will work closely with public-sector clients, contributing to field programs, environmental evaluations, regulatory analyses, and compliance activities. The role involves developing technical documentation, supporting permit strategies, conducting site investigations, and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors, interpreting complex regulatory requirements, and presenting findings to stakeholders. The position also includes opportunities to guide junior staff and participate in regional environmental planning efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee environmental compliance tasks for infrastructure and site‑development projects spanning multiple years.
  • Produce monitoring reports and related documentation consistent with federal and state water‑quality and land‑disturbance requirements.
  • Conduct field assessments, including wetland boundary identification, habitat evaluations, and natural‑resource mapping using accepted state and federal practices.
  • Prepare environmental analyses and review materials in support of federal and state environmental‑policy review processes.
  • Support the preparation of permit applications across various regulatory levels, particularly those involving aquatic resources, land disturbance, and natural‑resource protection.
  • Assist public agencies with ecological evaluations, environmental planning, and compliance obligations.
  • Collect environmental samples, analyze field conditions, and interpret ecological datasets to guide project planning.
  • Present technical information to community audiences, regulatory bodies, and project partners.
  • Review erosion and sediment control materials, construction‑phase plans, and related compliance documents.
  • Coordinate with permitting authorities and regulatory contacts to support project approvals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geology, natural resources, engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-10 years of experience in environmental consulting, ecological fieldwork, or regulatory compliance.
  • Training or certification related to construction‑site environmental oversight.
  • Experience supporting compliance with stormwater and land‑disturbance regulations.
  • Background working on transportation, utility, or other public‑sector infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform wetland or resource‑area delineations using standard technical protocols.
  • Knowledge of regulatory programs and environmental processes common within New England.
  • Experience communicating technical information to public audiences or stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
  • Strong writing, organizational, fieldwork, and analytical skills.

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Experience leading environmental initiatives or coordinating multi‑step technical tasks.
  • PWS or WPIT
  • Qualifications to conduct delineations or ecological assessments in additional New England states.
  • Familiarity with regional environmental‑policy acts, municipal permitting processes, and watershed or stormwater management standards.
