Senior Ecologist Project Manager
A confidential client is seeking a Senior Ecologist Project Manager with 7+ years of experience to lead technically complex ecological projects and provide subject matter expertise across a range of environmental studies and permitting efforts. This role is heavily focused on hands-on technical execution, regulatory analysis, and high-quality deliverables, while also contributing to project oversight and targeted business development.
The ideal candidate will be a strong technical leader with deep experience in ecological assessments, regulatory compliance, and environmental permitting, capable of guiding projects from a scientific and analytical perspective.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Execution
- Lead and perform detailed ecological assessments, including habitat evaluations, wetland delineations, species surveys, and impact analyses
- Interpret and apply environmental regulations (e.g., NEPA, ESA, Clean Water Act, state and local requirements) to support project compliance strategies
- Prepare, review, and QA/QC highly technical deliverables, including biological assessments, ecological reports, permitting documents, and mitigation plans
- Conduct data analysis and synthesize findings into defensible, agency-ready documentation
- Provide technical oversight on complex projects and ensure consistency with regulatory and scientific standards
Project Management
- Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets while maintaining a strong focus on technical quality
- Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, and internal technical staff to ensure efficient project execution
- Identify and mitigate project risks, particularly related to regulatory compliance and technical accuracy
Regulatory & Client Interaction
- Serve as a technical liaison with regulatory agencies, addressing comments and supporting permitting approvals
- Advise clients on ecological risks, permitting pathways, and compliance requirements
- Support business development efforts through technical input on proposals and scopes of work
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in ecological consulting or environmental science with a strong technical focus
- Expertise in ecological field methods, impact assessments, and environmental permitting
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations
- Strong technical writing and data analysis skills
- Proven ability to produce high-quality, defensible scientific deliverables
- Experience managing projects while maintaining technical leadership
