The Opportunity
We are seeking a Wildlife Ecologist (Managerial Level) to join a highly respected ecological consulting team in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level professional to lead complex environmental projects, contribute technical expertise, and mentor a team of talented ecologists.
You will play a key role in delivering impactful projects focused on wildlife ecology, environmental compliance, and habitat conservation across California.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage wildlife ecology projects from proposal through delivery
- Serve as lead biologist, providing technical expertise on wildlife species and habitats
- Prepare and review technical reports, environmental documentation, and compliance materials
- Manage regulatory processes including CEQA/NEPA documentation and Endangered Species Act compliance
- Act as a primary liaison with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, and deliverables
- Mentor and manage junior staff, supporting team development and performance
- Support business development efforts including proposals and client engagement
Technical Focus Areas
- Wildlife habitat assessments and surveys
- Environmental compliance and permitting
- CEQA / NEPA documentation
- Federal and California Endangered Species Act (FESA/CESA) compliance
- Mitigation and monitoring planning
- Construction compliance and ecological oversight
Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong expertise in wildlife species and habitats in California (ideally Bay Area)
- 4-8+ years of professional experience, including project management responsibilities
- Experience with CEQA/NEPA and regulatory permitting
- Proven ability to lead projects and manage multiple priorities
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
