Senior Electrical Controls Engineer - Atlanta, GA
We are currently hiring for a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer to join our Atlanta-based office. This is a hands-on role requiring deep expertise in electrical and controls engineering, with responsibilities covering system design, commissioning, and start-up. Regular client site visits within Atlanta are expected, along with approximately 10-15% travel to locations outside the state.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply sound engineering principles to develop, assess, and optimize industrial processes across a range of sectors including food and beverage, chemical, and packaging.
- Lead or support all phases of electrical controls project delivery-including system design, programming, documentation, and on-site commissioning.
- Develop new PLC and HMI control systems or upgrade existing ones.
- Create electrical schematics and design control panels; prepare electrical installation bid packages and oversee their implementation.
- Ensure high levels of accuracy and strict adherence to safety standards, even under tight timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in process controls engineering within a manufacturing setting.
- Proven background working both independently and in collaborative, hands-on project environments.
- Strong interest in exploring and applying new technologies and equipment.
- Self-starter attitude with enthusiasm, initiative, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Experience overseeing fabrication and installation activities.
- Ability to support production launches while maintaining safety and performance standards.
- Industry experience in food, beverage, or chemical sectors is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, Word, and MS Project.
Technical Expertise
- Design and troubleshooting of industrial control systems, including electrical panel layouts and schematic creation.
- Hands-on experience with Rockwell VFDs.
- Specification and selection of sensors and field devices.
- Programming and maintenance of PLC platforms such as ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC 5, and SLC.
- HMI/SCADA system development and troubleshooting (FTView, iFix, Wonderware, Ignition, etc.).
- Designing robust communication networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, ASi, ModBus, etc.).
- Configuration and tuning of PID control loops via 4-20 mA signal wiring.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong sense of professional integrity.
Additional Requirements
- Must be physically capable of fieldwork-including climbing ladders, crossing platforms, and accessing various equipment.
- Will need to walk significant distances across large manufacturing facilities during daily tasks.
- Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening, background check, and MVR check per company and client policy.
