Senior ITS Traffic Engineer
Overview
We are partnered with a growing transportation engineering firm in Orlando seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer (ITS) to support and lead intelligent transportation systems projects across Central Florida. This role will play a key part in project delivery, client coordination, and mentoring junior staff, with a strong focus on FDOT and local agency work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, design, and implementation of ITS and traffic engineering projects
- Develop PS&E plans, specifications, and estimates in accordance with FDOT standards
- Support traffic studies, signal design, signing and marking, and ITS infrastructure (fiber, CCTV, DMS, ATMS)
- Manage project tasks, schedules, and budgets while coordinating with internal teams and clients
- Serve as a technical lead and mentor to junior engineers and EIs
- Interface with FDOT (primarily District 5) and local municipalities on project delivery
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- PE license required (Florida preferred or ability to obtain quickly)
- 6+ years of experience in traffic engineering and/or ITS design
- Strong experience with FDOT standards, plans production, and design manuals
- Familiarity with tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, Synchro, or Vissim
- Experience with ITS components such as signal systems, communication networks, and traffic management systems
Preferred Experience
- FDOT District 5 experience or strong Central Florida project exposure
- Background in both traffic operations and ITS design
- Experience managing small to mid-size projects or leading design teams
