A well-established, employee-focused engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Civil Department Manager to lead and grow its Denver-area civil engineering practice. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced civil engineering professional who enjoys building teams, developing client relationships, and driving the growth of a thriving land development and infrastructure practice.
The ideal candidate will bring a combination of technical expertise, business development experience, and leadership capabilities. This role offers significant influence over the direction of the department, with the support and resources of a nationally recognized organization.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight for a growing civil engineering team
- Manage department operations, staffing, utilization, and overall performance
- Lead business development efforts and strengthen relationships with existing and prospective clients
- Mentor and develop project managers, engineers, and technical staff
- Support recruiting, workforce planning, and team growth initiatives
- Oversee project delivery, quality control, and client satisfaction
- Collaborate with regional and national leadership on strategic growth initiatives
- Manage departmental financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, and profitability
- Represent the firm within the local engineering and development community
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10+ years of civil engineering consulting experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and project portfolios
- Strong business development and client management track record
- Experience within land development, public infrastructure, municipal, or transportation projects
- Proven ability to mentor staff and lead multidisciplinary teams
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
