Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and bilingual Construction Project Manager to lead the execution of large-scale industrial construction projects in Japan. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in project management, contractor management, scheduling, and budget oversight, particularly in advanced manufacturing, semi conductor, pharmaceutical or power plant environments.
The successful candidate will be based in Tokyo or Osaka and must be fluent in Japanese (native or business-level) and English (business-level), with a proven ability to manage complex construction projects from planning through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full life cycle of construction projects, from pre-construction planning through execution and handover.
- Manage and coordinate general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, resource plans, and cost forecasts.
- Implement and monitor project control systems, including risk management, change control, and progress tracking.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Lead regular site meetings and interface with internal stakeholders, engineering teams, and external partners.
- Prepare and present project status reports to senior management and clients.
- Support procurement and contract negotiation processes.
- Travel to project sites as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in construction project management, preferably in industrial, energy, or manufacturing sectors.
- Proven track record managing large-scale, complex construction projects in Japan.
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, PMP, or equivalent).
- Proficient in project scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and cost control systems.
- Fluent in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking); business-level English required.
- Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with Japanese construction laws, permitting processes, and safety regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP or equivalent project management certification.
