Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Construction Technician to support a variety of transportation and infrastructure projects throughout Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. This position offers the opportunity to work on roadway improvements, utility installations, and other civil infrastructure projects while collaborating directly with engineers, project managers, contractors, and public agency representatives.
The ideal candidate will enjoy a combination of field and office responsibilities and will play an important role in ensuring construction projects are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform construction observation and inspection activities on civil infrastructure projects
- Observe, measure, and document construction progress and field operations
- Prepare detailed daily construction reports and project documentation
- Assist with quantity calculations and construction recordkeeping
- Support construction layout and surveying activities
- Coordinate with project engineers, project managers, contractors, and stakeholders
- Assist with various project delivery tasks throughout planning, design, and construction phases
- Help maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and service
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Construction Management Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent field experience will also be considered
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Construction Inspector, Construction Technician, or similar field-based role
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively interact with residents, contractors, businesses, and public agencies
- Strong organizational and computer skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Willingness to travel throughout Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin using personal transportation
Preferred Experience
- Roadway, utility, municipal, or transportation construction experience
- Familiarity with construction documentation, quantity tracking, and field reporting
- Surveying or construction layout experience
- Experience working with public-sector infrastructure projects
