Overview:
A well-established automation solutions provider, operating since 1986, is seeking a Controls Engineer to join their team in the Harrisburg, PA area. With a strong reputation across food & beverage, pharmaceutical, metals, water, and wastewater industries, the company is known for its collaborative environment, technical excellence, and long-standing client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, install, and support industrial control systems and HMI applications
- Lead and manage assigned automation projects from concept through completion
- Interface directly with customers to gather requirements and deliver tailored solutions
- Prepare User Requirement Specifications (URS), functional specifications, and quotations
- Program and troubleshoot Allen Bradley PLCs and configure Rockwell Automation systems (required)
- Support and develop HMI systems, particularly Rockwell platforms
- Review and optimize Siemens and Omron PLC programs (preferred)
- Prepare and implement pFMEA and eFMEA documentation
- Coordinate tool crib setup using CMMS systems
- Conduct root cause analysis and support system troubleshooting
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including maintenance and production
- Provide occasional training and mentorship to junior engineers
- Participate in skills assessments and hands-on troubleshooting during the interview process
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate's degree in an engineering or technical discipline with relevant experience (Bachelor's preferred but not required)
- 3-5+ years of experience in control system design and implementation
- Strong proficiency in Allen Bradley PLCs and Rockwell Automation platforms
- Experience with motor controllers, sensors, instrumentation, and HMI systems
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings and electrical schematics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Project management experience and ability to work independently
Preferred:
- Experience with Siemens and Omron PLCs
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Agile PLM/Baan ERP systems
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards and servo controls
- Background in food & beverage or other process industries (pharma, metals, water/wastewater)
- Experience with GMP, validation, and automation in regulated environments
