Automation and Controls Engineer
An engineering organization is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer with a broad technical background that includes PLC/HMI/SCADA programming, robotics, hardware selection and integration, and the use of CAD tools.
Experience: 5+ years preferred
This role involves participation in multiple project teams and requires a wide-ranging technical skill set across controls, electrical design, and system integration.
Electrical Design
- Electrical system design for industrial automation applications
- Selection and specification of control system hardware and software components
- Creation of electrical schematics
- 2D control panel layout and documentation
Controls Engineering
- Development of PLC and HMI/SCADA programs to control machinery and industrial processes
- Integration of sensors and actuators
- Use of industrial communication protocols, including CAN and SSI
- Experience with hydraulic control systems
- Understanding of control theory, including PID tuning and stability considerations
- Familiarity with a variety of controls platforms and hardware
- Component selection and bill of materials (BOM) development
- Power distribution design
- Integration with industrial and collaborative robotic systems
Software and Tools
- Experience with CODESYS, RMC Tools, and EPLAN
- AutoCAD Electrical
- SolidWorks experience is a plus
General Qualifications
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Attention to detail with solid analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
- Mechanical and/or structural experience is a plus
- Experience with project estimating and quoting
- Ability to provide on-site technical support
- Participation in FMEA activities and design reviews
- Familiarity with applicable electrical codes and regulatory requirements
