Position: Controls Technician
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Controls Technician to join our team in the DFW area. This role focuses on line programming, commissioning, and servicing Building Automation Systems (BAS) across commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with major BAS platforms, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a desire to work in the field supporting customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform line-level programming, setup, and configuration of Building Automation Systems, including controllers, sensors, and network communication.
- Install, service, and troubleshoot BAS components such as VAV controllers, AHU controls, plant controllers, and network devices.
- Commission and validate system performance, ensuring sequences of operation are implemented accurately.
- Read, interpret, and update control drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequences of operation.
- Work with BACnet, Modbus, and proprietary BAS protocols for integration and device communication.
- Perform on‑site diagnostics to identify root causes of control and mechanical HVAC issues.
- Support software updates and assist with graphical interface modifications as needed.
- Document programming changes, test results, and field modifications per company standards.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and customers to ensure successful project delivery.
- Provide technical support during system start-up and turnover.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and company-issued devices in good working condition.
- Adhere to safety standards and follow company and customer site procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 2-5+ years of experience working with Building Automation Systems or HVAC controls.
- Experience with line programming on at least one major platform (examples: Siemens, Distech, Reliabe Controls, Delta, etc.).
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, and control principles.
- Proficiency with low-voltage wiring, panel layout, and field device installation.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical plans and control submittals.
- Familiarity with network fundamentals (IP addressing, routing basics, MSTP/RS‑485).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to work at various customer locations in the DFW area.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- OEM‑specific certifications (JCI FX, Niagara N4, Siemens APOGEE/Desigo, Trane Tracer, etc.).
- Experience with Niagara Workbench programming and integration.
- Knowledge of energy management strategies and optimization.
- Ability to create or modify graphics and user interface pages.
- Experience with commissioning tools, such as airflow measurement devices or network diagnostic tools.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 40-50 lbs.
- Comfortable working on ladders, in mechanical rooms, and on active construction sites.
- Ability to work independently in field environments.
