Director of Business Development - Power Delivery (Northeast Focus)

I'm working on behalf of a highly reputable engineering and consulting firm that's actively seeking a Director of Business Development to lead growth efforts within their Power Delivery division. This is a strategic, client-facing role focused exclusively on the Northeast U.S., and the ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical engineering leadership and deep utility industry relationships.

Location Preference:

Candidates should be based in or near Lansdale, PA, or within the surrounding Northeast region-Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, or Washington D.C. are all ideal.

What They're Looking For:

This role is best suited for someone who has spent time in the trenches-someone with hands-on experience in transmission line, distribution, or substation engineering, ideally in a management or leadership capacity. The client is especially interested in individuals who have built strong relationships with utilities in the region and can leverage those connections to open doors and drive new business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead business development efforts across the Northeast, focusing on electric utility clients and power delivery projects.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders at utilities such as Eversource, National Grid, Avangrid, PPL, FirstEnergy, and others.
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams to develop tailored proposals and solutions that address client needs in transmission, distribution, and substation engineering.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote capabilities and generate new opportunities.
  • Stay informed on regional regulatory trends, infrastructure investment plans, and emerging technologies that impact the utility sector.
  • Manage the full sales cycle-from initial outreach and relationship-building through proposal development, negotiation, and handoff to delivery teams.

Ideal Background:

  • 10+ years of experience in the power delivery space, with a strong foundation in engineering and project execution.
  • Prior leadership or management experience within transmission, distribution, or substation projects.
  • A well-established network within Northeast utilities-especially those mentioned above.
  • Strong communication and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate technical capabilities into business value.
