Position Overview
Our client is seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Director of Water Resources to lead and grow their stormwater and drainage practice. This senior leadership role is ideal for a seasoned professional with 15+ years of experience in water resources engineering and project management. The successful candidate will oversee high-impact projects, drive technical excellence, mentor engineering teams, and contribute to the firm's long-term vision and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all stormwater and drainage initiatives across the firm.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the planning, design, and execution of complex water resources projects.
  • Develop and implement best practices for project delivery, quality assurance, and client satisfaction.
  • Mentor and manage engineering staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous development.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, site assessments, and conceptual designs for stormwater systems.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate water resources solutions into broader infrastructure projects.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decisions.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, industry forums, and regulatory discussions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in water resources engineering and project management.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in D.C., MD, or VA.
  • Proven success in delivering complex stormwater and wastewater projects for agencies such as DDOT, VDOT, MDOT, or similar.
  • Expertise in hydraulic modeling tools such as the Federal Highway Hydraulic Toolbox and OpenFlows Storm.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or certifications in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with regional water infrastructure planning and policy.
  • Familiarity with sustainable and resilient stormwater design practices.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $180,000 - $200,000
