Electrical Designer
A respected consulting engineering firm is seeking a mid-level Electrical Designer to join its growing MEP team. This position is ideal for a professional with 5-10 years of experience within MEP consulting who enjoys working on a diverse range of building projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and coordination of electrical systems for projects spanning commercial, healthcare, education, municipal, mixed-use, hospitality, residential, and industrial sectors. This role offers significant responsibility, client interaction, and opportunities for continued professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems for a wide variety of building projects from schematic design through construction administration.
- Prepare and coordinate construction documents, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
- Design power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, emergency power, and low-voltage systems.
- Perform electrical load calculations, panel schedules, equipment sizing, and code analysis.
- Utilize Revit and AutoCAD to develop detailed construction drawings and BIM models.
- Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, structural, architectural, and civil project team members.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project coordination efforts.
- Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction administration activities as needed.
- Assist with mentoring junior designers and supporting technical development within the team.
- Ensure designs comply with NEC, local building codes, and industry standards.
Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience within an MEP engineering consulting environment.
- Experience designing electrical systems for a variety of commercial and institutional building projects.
- Strong proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
- Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes.
- Experience preparing construction documents and coordinating with multiple disciplines.
- Strong communication, organizational, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- EIT certification or progress toward PE licensure.
- Experience working directly with clients, architects, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Familiarity with electrical analysis and lighting software such as SKM, EasyPower, AGi32, or Visual.
- Experience across multiple market sectors, including healthcare, education, commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, or municipal projects.
