Position Overview

This role serves as a lead electrical engineer within a collaborative project team, focusing on the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems for both new facility installations and upgrades to existing plants. The position includes hybrid work with regular in‑office collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering tasks related to power distribution design and the development of specifications for major electrical equipment and installation services.
  • Support the project manager to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
  • Coordinate electrical system design efforts to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry codes, and applicable standards.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, including single-line diagrams, schematics, relay and metering drawings, and cable block diagrams.
  • Generate and review engineering calculations such as voltage drop, auxiliary power system studies, protective relay settings, and arc-flash analyses.
  • Work directly with equipment vendors to develop bills of material, evaluate proposals, and recommend equipment selections.
  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports and studies in accordance with internal and client standards.
  • Conduct independent reviews of engineering work prepared by others, including calculations and drawings.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and contribute to continuous learning through internal knowledge-sharing programs.
  • Participate in design reviews at client and vendor locations and perform on-site verification activities during construction.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; power systems focus preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or ability to obtain a PE license.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical design for industrial or power generation facilities, including system integration and upgrades.
  • Expertise in equipment selection, control philosophy, and preparation of technical specifications and engineering analyses.
  • Experience with medium- and low-voltage system design (transformers, motors, generators, communications systems).
  • Proficiency with electrical analysis software such as ETAP and/or SKM.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and protective devices.
  • Experience serving as a lead engineer and client interface.
  • Background reviewing engineering deliverables produced by others.

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Knowledge of instrumentation and controls engineering.
  • Experience in project management, business development, or construction/startup environments.

AI & Automation Expectations

  • Guide teams in using data-driven methods, automation, and AI tools to streamline engineering workflows, improve efficiency, and reduce rework.
  • Provide direction on when and how to apply scripting, automation, or AI-assisted tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to engineering tasks.
  • Oversee engineers utilizing programming or automation tools and ensure quality review of generated outputs.
  • Additional experience or coursework in computer science, AI, or software engineering is considered a plus.
