Engineering Director, APAC
The client is seeking an experienced Engineering Director to lead their regional engineering and operations teams across Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. This senior leadership role will oversee office operations, staff management, external consultants, and project delivery from land procurement through integrated system testing.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in hyperscale data center construction and AI-focused builds, ensuring alignment with client expectations, owner requirements, and global standards. This role demands a dynamic leader with strong technical, operational, and interpersonal skills, capable of thriving in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Lead and manage engineering teams across APAC offices (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia).
Recruit, mentor, and retain a diverse and high-performing staff.
Oversee day-to-day office operations while ensuring alignment with global engineering strategies.
Project Delivery
Lead projects from site/land acquisition through design, construction, commissioning, and integrated system testing (IST).
Coordinate with owners, clients, and consultants to align project scope, budget, and timelines.
Ensure adherence to hyperscale data center design, including AI/High Performance Computing (HPC) requirements.
Manage external engineering consultants and contractors to deliver on quality, safety, and schedule commitments.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as primary technical and management liaison with clients and ownership teams.
Provide leadership in negotiations, technical presentations, and cross-functional collaboration.
Ensure clear communication across multiple languages and cultures, with English as the working language.
Operational Excellence
Develop and implement APAC engineering strategy, aligning with corporate objectives.
Drive innovation and best practices in mechanical, electrical, and integrated systems.
Ensure compliance with international, regional, and local codes and standards.
Travel up to 50% of the time across APAC to support project and office operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
Experience:
Minimum 15 years of professional engineering experience.
At least 5 years of hands-on experience with hyperscale data center projects, including AI/HPC builds.
Leadership: Proven success managing diverse, multicultural engineering teams across multiple countries.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of hyperscale mechanical systems, integrated system testing, and large-scale data center construction practices.
Communication: Excellent English verbal and written skills; ability to present to clients, ownership, and executive stakeholders.
Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% regionally.
Preferred Attributes
Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
Ability to navigate complex regulatory and permitting environments in APAC.
Demonstrated success delivering mission-critical facilities at scale.
High adaptability to evolving AI-driven data center demands.
