Position Overview
The organization is seeking a mid-level Geotechnical Engineer to support its Knoxville operations, which focus primarily on coal mine tailings. This role is well-suited for an experienced engineer ready to take on increased technical responsibility, mentor junior staff, and step into project leadership when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support geotechnical engineering work related to coal mine tailings, including investigations, analyses, design, and reporting.
- Serve as a technical lead on select projects, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and guiding overall project direction.
- Mentor and develop junior engineering staff, supporting their technical growth and professional progression.
- Step in to lead projects, managing schedules, deliverables, and client communication.
- Conduct site visits, field inspections, and geotechnical assessments as required.
- Produce clear, comprehensive technical reports and project documentation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, ideally within mining or tailings environments.
- Strong technical foundation in geotechnical analysis, slope stability, embankment design, and tailings management.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred, or the ability to obtain one in the near future.
- Demonstrated capability in mentoring junior staff and providing technical leadership.
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Willingness to perform both office and field work.
