Safety Manager - Heavy Civil Construction
Location: Portland, OR
Salary: $125,000 - $175,000 base (DOE)
A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support complex infrastructure and underground utility projects across the Portland metro area. This is a high-impact role focused on driving a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and partnering closely with field leadership to execute safe, efficient operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead jobsite safety efforts across multiple heavy civil construction projects
- Assist in the development and implementation of company-wide safety training resources
- Support project teams in developing and executing site-specific safety plans
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Identify hazardous conditions and implement corrective measures
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NIOSH, ANSI, and other applicable regulations
- Collaborate with operations and field teams to promote a proactive safety culture
Experience Needed
- Minimum 3+ years of safety leadership experience on construction sites
- Strong background supporting heavy civil, underground utility, and/or shoring projects (required)
- Demonstrated experience working in fast-paced, field-driven environments
- Proven ability to recognize hazardous conditions and implement effective solutions
- Experience partnering with project teams in developing safety work plans
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, and ANSI safety regulations
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Self-motivated with sound decision-making abilities
- Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively within a team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows
- Excellent communication and leadership capabilities
