A well-established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Landscape Architecture Director to lead a growing team focused on ecological restoration and resilient design. This is a unique opportunity to shape impactful projects across California and beyond, working with a collaborative group of scientists, engineers, and designers.

About the Role

The successful candidate will lead a Landscape Architecture group within a multidisciplinary team specializing in riverscapes and shorelines. Projects span tidal marshes, meadows, floodplains, estuaries, and urban stream rehabilitation, with expanding work in Oregon. The role also includes collaboration on parks, open space, and community resilience initiatives.

You'll be involved in every phase of restoration from site selection to adaptive management and will help integrate ecological design with public access, education, and climate adaptation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Guide design strategies for wetland, riverine, and riparian restoration.
  • Oversee conceptual plans, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Provide construction administration and field observation.
  • Apply expertise in native plant communities, soils, hydrology, and restoration techniques.

Team Leadership

  • Mentor landscape architects and designers in AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Supervise project managers and design staff to ensure quality and timeliness.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across technical teams.

Business Development

  • Build regional recognition through networking and conference participation.
  • Advise clients and lead proposal efforts.
  • Support long-term client relationships and strategic growth.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Landscape Architect in the U.S. (California licensure within 6 months required).
  • 10+ years of experience in ecological restoration design and implementation.
  • Accredited degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with California ecosystems and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience mentoring staff and developing a portfolio of work.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid or remote work options available, with preference for candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams across multiple office locations.

Compensation & Career Path

  • Salary range: $120,000-$172,000, depending on experience and level.
