Marine Engineering Lead
Position Summary
The Lead Engineer is responsible for overseeing the design and detail engineering efforts for high-speed aluminum vessels. This role combines technical leadership with team management, guiding engineers, designers, and subcontractors to deliver high-quality designs that support efficient vessel construction.
Essential Functions
- Lead engineering and design activities across Naval Architecture, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical disciplines.
- Manage and mentor a team of engineers and subcontractors to achieve project goals.
- Oversee creation and review of 3D models and production drawings.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and project specifications.
- Collaborate with Project Management and Production teams to maintain build schedules and resolve design issues.
- Participate in design reviews, sea trials, and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, procedures, and design libraries.
- Support estimating during early project phases and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibility
Lead a team of up to 10 engineers and designers, managing schedules, budgets, and subcontractor deliverables.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Ship Constructor; familiarity with ERP systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of vessel arrangements, structural and mechanical systems.
- Ability to interpret complex technical documents and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Experience in managing teams and coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 10-15 years of relevant shipbuilding or boatbuilding experience; high-speed aluminum vessels preferred.
- Familiarity with ABS, USCG, IMO/SOLAS, and other industry standards.
