The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and detail-driven Mechanical Estimator to join our client's growing preconstruction team. This role is an excellent fit for someone who wants to advance their estimating career within a stable, growth‑oriented contractor, while enjoying a lower‑cost, community‑focused lifestyle outside the big‑city environment.
This position is based on-site in a small town approximately 100 miles from Chicago, and relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing scopes
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to develop accurate material and labor takeoffs
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors during the preconstruction process
- Evaluate bid opportunities, scope gaps, value‑engineering options, and risk factors
- Participate in proposal development and ensure estimates align with company standards and profitability goals
- Support business development and client relationships where needed
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience within mechanical contracting (HVAC, piping, plumbing, or related scopes)
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, mechanical systems, and industry estimating practices
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and communication abilities
- Ability to relocate to the project location (relocation assistance provided)
