Mid-level Traffic Engineer | Mt. Laurel, NJ
A growing engineering consulting firm is looking to add a Traffic Engineer with approximately 3+ years of transportation and traffic engineering experience to support the continued expansion of its transportation practice throughout New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of transportation projects while collaborating with experienced professionals in a dynamic team environment. The role is based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver technical traffic engineering services related to transportation planning, operational analysis, and roadway design.
- Conduct traffic studies and evaluations, including:
- Traffic Impact Analyses
- Intersection and corridor operational assessments
- Capacity analyses
- Signal timing and optimization studies
- Develop design documents such as:
- Traffic signal plans
- Signing and pavement marking plans
- Temporary traffic control and staging plans
- ADA-compliant curb ramp improvements
- Supporting electrical and communications plans
- Utilize engineering judgment to analyze transportation data and develop practical design solutions.
- Coordinate project activities with internal disciplines, clients, regulatory agencies, and external consultants.
- Contribute to project planning efforts, including scope development, scheduling, and budget tracking.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff members and support their professional development.
- Participate in project meetings, technical presentations, and client communications.
Preferred Qualifications
- New Jersey Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Familiarity with NJDOT traffic engineering standards and design requirements.
- Experience preparing plans in accordance with NJDOT CADD protocols.
- Working knowledge of traffic simulation and modeling platforms such as VISSIM and Tru-Traffic.
- Understanding of traffic signal hardware, including NEMA controllers and intelligent transportation systems.
- Knowledge of communication networks used in transportation infrastructure, including fiber optic systems, Ethernet networks, and wireless communications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with the ability to obtain a New Jersey PE license in the near future.
- Experience using transportation analysis software such as Synchro, HCS, or comparable programs.
- Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
