Location: Fukushima, Tohoku Region (Hybrid: approx. 3 days on-site, remainder remote; Sendai is a viable base due to proximity)

About the Role

A leading renewable energy company in the Asia-Pacific region is seeking an experienced Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Lead Engineer to oversee solar energy projects in Japan. This role is pivotal in ensuring optimal performance, safety, and efficiency across solar assets, while driving continuous improvement and standardization in O&M practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation of solar projects, monitoring performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Implement and coordinate maintenance procedures and standards with service contractors to ensure operational excellence.
  • Participate in tendering, contract negotiations, and setup for O&M-related services and parts.
  • Supervise service level agreements and inspections required by regulatory authorities.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance operational performance and ensure their execution.
  • Contribute to budgeting processes for O&M activities to maximize asset profitability.
  • Manage relationships with local stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Ensure maintenance policies are followed to optimize cost-benefit outcomes.
  • Engage regularly with local authorities and communities.
  • Support insurance setup and claims management.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Fluent in Japanese and English.
  • Valid driving license.
  • Proven experience managing solar assets above 2 MW.
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV technology, maintenance techniques, energy market regulations, and performance monitoring.

Technical Skills

  • Expertise in maintenance and testing techniques.
  • Familiarity with industrial norms and standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Open to learning and adapting.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
