Project Manager - Geotechnical Engineering

Location: Parsippany, NJ (Tri-State Region)
Compensation: $140,000 - $180,000 + comprehensive benefits + bonus eligibility

About the Opportunity

I'm partnering with a rapidly growing engineering firm in the Tri-State area that is known for delivering innovative geotechnical, site/civil, and environmental solutions for private developers, public agencies, and construction partners. The organization has a strong track record of internal growth, a collaborative culture, and a commitment to professional development.

They are currently seeking an experienced Geotechnical Project Manager who can lead complex investigations and manage full-cycle engineering projects across the region. This is an excellent role for someone who enjoys technical problem-solving, direct client interaction, and overseeing both field and office teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage geotechnical site investigations, including evaluation of surface and subsurface conditions and development of technical recommendations.

  • Plan and execute engineering programs: define project scope, milestones, staffing needs, and overall project strategy.

  • Develop and maintain project schedules and budgets; ensure financial targets and timelines are met.

  • Prepare and oversee technical deliverables including reports, design documents, specifications, proposals, and bid packages.

  • Assign, coordinate, and supervise project personnel across various phases such as field studies, technical analyses, design work, and testing.

  • Review engineering work for compliance with industry standards, contractual obligations, and technical accuracy.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing clear communication, status updates, and responsive support.

  • Support business development by strengthening existing client relationships and contributing to proposal development.

  • Participate in research planning, design of experiments, data analysis, and training of junior staff as needed.

  • Travel up to 10% (occasionally out of state) for site visits, client meetings, and field oversight.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.

  • 8-10+ years of relevant geotechnical or environmental engineering experience, including a minimum of 5 years in project management.

  • Strong background in construction environments is preferred.

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for accessing job sites.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain).

  • Proficiency or familiarity with engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GSLOPE, KeyWall, Rocscience, as well as MS Office tools.

  • Solid analytical skills, including comfort with statistical concepts and geometry/trigonometry applications.

Preferred:

  • Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) credential.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based work with approximately 10% field activity.

  • Fieldwork may involve uneven terrain, varied weather conditions, and use of PPE (boots, hard hat, safety glasses, vest, etc.).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform typical site-related tasks (walking, climbing, standing, etc.).

  • Standard office environment during non-field tasks with low to moderate noise levels.
