Senior Bridge Engineer
A well-established, employee-owned civil engineering firm is expanding its structural practice and is seeking a Senior Structural/Bridge Engineer to lead the analysis and design of new and rehabilitation projects. This person will serve as a technical lead, manage multidiscipline tasks, mentor junior staff, and support delivery for transportation clients across the Mid‑Atlantic (state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and select private clients).
What You'll Do
- Lead design and analysis for highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, load ratings, and related structures.
- Plan, direct, and monitor mid-to-large, multi‑discipline projects with significant technical complexity.
- Coordinate with project managers and cross‑functional teams to develop schematics, design development, and contract documents.
- Oversee deliverables to ensure quality, clarity, and compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.
- Manage staffing and workflow to meet schedules and budgets; support project reviews.
- Implement and enforce QA/QC procedures; review and seal bridge plans as appropriate.
- Mentor and develop junior and mid‑level engineers; contribute to training efforts.
- Participate in client relations, proposal support, and occasional business development.
- Conduct or support hands‑on bridge condition inspections as needed (comfortable working at heights).
What You Bring
- Bachelor's in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited required); Master's in Structural Engineering preferred.
- PE license (or ability to obtain via reciprocity within ~6 months).
- 10+ years of progressive bridge/structural design experience with client-facing project management.
- Strong technical design skills, leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency with bridge/structural analysis and design tools (e.g., LEAP, LARSA, LPile, MDX, AASHTOWare, or similar).
- Working knowledge of MicroStation/OpenRoads/Bridge (or comparable CAD/BIM platforms) is a plus.
- MS Office proficiency.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally for projects/inspections as needed.
