Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Designer is responsible for developing complex electrical design deliverables for large-scale industrial and power-generation projects. This role involves creating detailed 2D and 3D drawings, electrical schematics, and system layouts while collaborating closely with engineers and project teams to ensure designs meet technical, schedule, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D electrical raceway models, routing layouts, and design drawings using computer-aided design tools.
  • Prepare complete electrical documentation, including one-line, three-line, and protection/relaying diagrams, based on engineering direction or written specifications.
  • Apply electrical design principles, calculations, and established practices to support system layouts and equipment sizing.
  • Plan and produce drawings for non-routine and technically complex assignments, including layout development, problem analysis, and required calculations.
  • Execute a wide range of electrical design tasks using standard methods, including refining conceptual sketches into finished construction documents.
  • Incorporate design revisions, redlines, and markups throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review technical reports, drawings, and test data to support accurate and compliant design solutions.
  • Interpret and apply applicable electrical codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Perform quality checks of design deliverables to ensure compliance with scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Prepare calculations and documentation for equipment layouts, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings.
  • Maintain accurate version control and organized storage of drawings, files, and project documentation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal team members and external stakeholders regarding design coordination.
  • Support proposal development efforts as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of overall experience in electrical design.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting power-generation or similar industrial facilities.
  • Proven experience producing electrical one-line diagrams, raceway systems, and cable routing for large facilities.
  • Familiarity with power-generation equipment such as steam and gas turbine generators, medium- and low-voltage systems, step-up transformers, and associated infrastructure.
  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, including 3D modeling, and strong working knowledge of spreadsheet tools for engineering calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in both 2D and 3D drafting environments.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design theory, calculations, and system integration.
  • Working knowledge of related engineering disciplines sufficient to coordinate multidisciplinary designs.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a project team that includes engineers, designers, and project managers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to resolve design challenges.
