Senior Electrical Engineer

Overview
Seeking a highly capable Electrical Engineer to take ownership of solar PV project design from early development through construction-ready delivery. This role is suited for someone who can independently lead design efforts and operate with minimal oversight while ensuring technical accuracy and compliance. You will play a key role in producing high-quality engineering packages for both commercial and utility-scale renewable projects. The position requires strong technical expertise across electrical design, interconnection strategy, and system optimization.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute across multiple stages of photovoltaic project execution, including site assessments, CAD drafting, design development, specification creation, and construction support.

• Lead full-cycle electrical design efforts, ensuring all deliverables from conceptual layouts to final construction drawings meet quality and regulatory standards.

• Design experience spanning Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and large-scale ground-mounted solar systems (5MW+).

• Exposure to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is highly preferred, particularly integration with PV systems.

• Act as the primary engineering authority for assigned projects.

• Independently produce complete electrical designs without reliance on senior-level review.

• Take accountability for the accuracy, constructability, and code compliance of all deliverables.

• Make critical design decisions related to system configuration, equipment selection, and interpretation of applicable codes.

• Deliver client-ready, permit-ready, and Issued for Construction (IFC) packages with minimal external validation.

• Provide guidance and technical direction to junior engineers, supporting their development and project contributions.

• Operate effectively as a senior engineer capable of delivering finalized designs autonomously.

• Participate in client meetings and technical discussions as needed.

• Manage work within defined project budgets and timelines.

Core Technical Capabilities

• Perform detailed solar PV system design and modeling.

• Conduct PVsyst analyses and energy production calculations.

• Develop construction drawings using AutoCAD.

• Perform voltage drop calculations and size conductors and raceways.

• Conduct short circuit and fault current studies.

• Design electrical distribution systems and prepare single-line diagrams.

• Interpret and apply electrical codes and standards.

• Prepare technical specifications.

• Carry out protective device coordination and relay setting validation (when required).

• Lead interconnection design efforts, including utility coordination and point-of-interconnection strategy.

• Design medium voltage (MV) collection systems for utility-scale plants.

• Identify and mitigate system risks such as voltage rise, thermal constraints, and fault duty limitations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial solar design.

• Demonstrated ability to independently produce complete electrical design packages-not solely contributing within a reviewed team structure.

• Experience issuing final designs directly to clients, utilities, or Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).

• Comfortable defending technical decisions and design approaches in front of clients and regulatory bodies.

• Proven track record of delivering high-quality construction documents while supporting and mentoring junior staff.

• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and related engineering tools.

• Familiarity with industry software such as PVsyst and ETAP, along with strong Microsoft Office skills.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
