Senior Fire Protection Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead and support fire protection design across a diverse portfolio of building types, including healthcare, education, commercial, and civic projects. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, code-compliant, and performance-based fire protection solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and engineering of fire protection systems including fire suppression, fire alarm, smoke control, and life safety systems.
- Perform code analysis and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including NFPA standards and building codes.
- Collaborate with architects, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers to integrate fire protection systems into overall building design.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and construction administration services.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of internal standards and best practices.
- Interface with clients, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and other stakeholders to communicate design intent and resolve technical issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; NCEES record preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fire protection engineering, with a strong portfolio of built work.
- Proficiency in fire modeling software (e.g., Pathfinder, FDS), AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Deep understanding of NFPA codes, IBC, and other relevant standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with performance-based design and alternative compliance strategies.
- LEED accreditation or familiarity with sustainable design principles.
- Experience in healthcare or laboratory environments is a plus.
