Senior Structural Engineer - Buildings
Our client, a well-established and growing structural engineering firm in Buffalo, NY, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead building design projects across New York State. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys technical leadership, mentoring junior staff, and acting as a trusted advisor to clients.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will take ownership of complex structural building projects from concept through construction, serve as Engineer of Record, and help guide a talented team of engineers and designers. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and/or independently develop structural analysis models and calculation packages for a variety of building and structural systems
- Serve as Engineer of Record on assigned projects
- Oversee and mentor junior engineering staff, including task delegation and technical guidance
- Review and contribute to structural drawings and models prepared using Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM tools
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering deliverables including plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates
- Perform technical and quality control reviews in accordance with firm, client, and industry standards
- Coordinate with internal project teams, external consultants, clients, and regulatory agencies to secure necessary approvals
- Support design investigations and provide construction-phase oversight as needed
- Travel within New York State for project-related activities
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong background in structural analysis and building design
- Proficient with Revit, AutoCAD, Mathcad, and spreadsheet-based engineering tools
- Ability to take projects from concept through final design with minimal oversight
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and lead small multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering
- New York State PE license (required)
- 10+ years of structural engineering experience
- Experience with steel and concrete design required; civil/site experience is a plus
- CPESC, LEED AP, and/or ENV SP certifications are advantageous
- Valid driver's license
