About the Role:

  • The Washington, D.C. Structures Division provides structural engineering services with an emphasis on new design, repair and rehabilitation of existing structures, and investigation and performance evaluation. Innovative techniques for design, analysis, and project management are routinely applied. In-house laboratories support design and investigation efforts through material, mechanical, and environmental testing.
  • The Structures Division is seeking a structural engineer with a minimum of 7 years of industry experience. This role involves structural evaluation, design, and investigative work; analysis and design calculations; preparation of drawings and specifications; and project management responsibilities. The position also includes mentoring junior staff, interacting with clients, and supporting construction-phase activities.
  • The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, technically proficient, and prepared to take on a leadership role within project teams while continuing to develop project management expertise.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Perform structural analysis and design involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures
  • Apply a variety of building codes to design and analysis tasks
  • Structural investigation/ restoration work on buildings
  • Assist with preparation of drawings, specifications, and technical reports
  • Support construction administration, including bid assistance, submittal reviews, site meetings, and field observations
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions
  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers
  • Interact directly with project clients
  • Support proposal development, project scoping, and internal coordination
  • Collaborate with senior staff on technical standards, training, and strategic initiatives
  • Pursue professional activities that support technical growth and industry recognition

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license - ideally
  • Strong knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, TMS, NDS, and related codes
  • Proficiency with tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, SAP2000, and Revit
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Proactive, team-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel to job sites not accessible by public transportation; acceptable motor vehicle record if applicable
